Starting School With a Smile

We have always believed that how a child feels at school shapes how they learn. Helping our pupils start school with confidence, curiosity, and a heartfelt smile is at the heart of everything we do. We believe that the way a child feels when they walk through our doors every day, from their first day to their last, each morning matters just as much as what they learn once they’re here.

That is why this term, we are placing an extra spotlight on wellbeing and the small joyful moments that make school life special by celebrating World Laughter Day. This day is a reminder of something we witness in our classrooms every day. As we firmly believe laughter breaks down barriers, builds friendships and turns ordinary moments into memories, and those small moments of joy shape how children see themselves and the world around them. The whole school plans to celebrate the day with multiple activities, from sending in pupils, teachers, and parents' best jokes, to seeing in assembly who can make Mr Girvin laugh first, with the opportunity to win prizes throughout the day. Our Headteacher, Mr Girvin, remarked that “a smile can change the course of a child’s day, and when we help children find joy in learning, they carry that joy into the world around them”.

Learning is something to be enjoyed, both academically and emotionally, and we take pride in that. Whether in Reception or further up the school, when families join us, our priority is simple: we want every child to feel known, supported and excited about the day ahead. We get to see first hand how quickly children thrive when they feel they truly belong.

As a community, we spend a lot of time creating moments that help children settle, grow and shine. From imaginative storytelling to hands-on challenges and collaborative play, we create opportunities for pupils to explore who they truly are, to try new things and develop the resilience that carries them through their school journey.

We also know that choosing a school is a big decision for families. That’s why we always encourage parents to come and see us in action. It’s the best way to understand our ethos, as a warm, values-led community where joy, kindness and curiosity sit alongside academic ambition.
