As September approaches, many parents of nursery-aged children quietly begin to ask themselves the same question: Is my child really ready for school? Often, that question is framed around reading, writing or whether a child can sit still for long periods but true school readiness is about so much more than academic ability. In reality, children thrive in Reception when they feel emotionally secure, confident in themselves, and curious about the world around them. Emotional readiness comes first One of the strongest indicators of readiness is a child’s emotional wellbeing. Can they recognise how they’re feeling? Are they comfortable asking for help?
