The Firs Puts Wellbeing Centre Stage During Healthy Body, Healthy Mind Week

Pupils at The Firs School, Chester, enjoyed a packed programme of activities, expert talks and sporting events as part of the school's annual Healthy Body, Healthy Mind Week.

Designed to promote physical health, mental wellbeing and positive lifestyle habits, the week brought together pupils, staff, parents and visiting experts for a celebration of healthy living both inside and outside the classroom.
Throughout the week, children took part in a range of activities including dance workshops, sports days, mindfulness and wellbeing sessions, while also learning about nutrition, resilience, safety and healthy choices through a series of inspiring talks.
A number of parents generously shared their expertise, including optician Joanne Lewis, who spoke to pupils about eye health, and nutritionist Seona Dunne, who delivered sessions on the importance of breakfast before leading a special healthy cooking workshop with the School Council. Pupils also welcomed Chris from Blood Bikes, who shared the vital work carried out by volunteers, while consultant paediatrician Dr Ravi Jayaram delivered an engaging session on healthy lifestyles and the human body. Mental health was also a key focus, with pupils taking part in The Resilient Kid workshop, exploring strategies to support emotional wellbeing and resilience.
Physical activity played a major role throughout the week. Pupils completed the Morning Mile each day, took part in National School Sports Week activities, enjoyed dance workshops and competed in sports days, cricket and dodgeball events. Not forgetting the always popular Family Rounders event, bringing pupils, parents and staff together for an afternoon of fun and friendly competition.

Healthy Body, Healthy Mind Week forms part of The Firs' wider commitment to helping children develop the knowledge, confidence and habits they need to thrive both now and in the future.
Headteacher David Girvan said: "Healthy Body, Healthy Mind Week is always one of the highlights of our school year. It gives children the opportunity to explore the many different ways we can look after ourselves, physically, mentally and emotionally. We are incredibly fortunate to have such a supportive school community, with parents and local experts giving their time to inspire our pupils and bring learning to life.
"What has been particularly pleasing is seeing the enthusiasm with which the children have embraced every activity, whether that has been taking part in sport, learning about nutrition, discussing mental wellbeing or simply encouraging one another. These are lessons that extend far beyond the classroom and help equip children with healthy habits for life."
At The Firs, Healthy Body, Healthy Mind Week is much more than a themed event. It reflects the school's belief that when children feel healthy, happy and supported, they are best placed to flourish both academically and personally.
