The Firs School Chester Welcomes Therapy Dog to Support Pupil Wellbeing

The Firs School Chester is proud to announce the arrival of Ziggy, a two-year-old Labrador Retriever who has joined the school as its newest member of staff. Ziggy is a registered PAT (Pets As Therapy) dog and will play an important role in supporting pupils’ wellbeing and development working alongside the learning mentor.

Ziggy has joined the team to build on the wonderful work of The Firs’ previous therapy dog, Thomas, who is now enjoying his quiet retirement.

Having completed extensive training to prepare for school life, Ziggy will provide comfort, companionship, and encouragement to learners, helping to create a calm and supportive environment. He has already proved to be a big hit with pupils, who are delighted to welcome him into their daily routines.

Headteacher David Girvan comments:"At The Firs, we believe in nurturing the whole child, academically, emotionally, and socially. Ziggy’s presence reflects our commitment to recognising every pupil as an individual and supporting them in becoming confident, resilient learners. He will make a truly unique contribution to this mission."

One pupil summed it up perfectly:"Ziggy makes me feel calm and happy. When he’s around, everyone smiles more.”
