The Firs School Blossoms with New Wildflower Garden

The Firs School in Chester returns to the new school year with a vibrant new wildflower garden on its playground, bringing colour, life, and learning opportunities to pupils of all ages.

The carefully planned garden is already alive with bees, butterflies, and other pollinators, offering children a chance to observe nature up close while enhancing their understanding of the environment. It also strengthens the school’s commitment to outdoor learning and sustainability, giving pupils hands-on experiences that complement classroom lessons.

As part of this commitment, the garden will support the already established Firs Forest School, further enriching opportunities for outdoor exploration and discovery.

Headteacher David Girvan comments:

“We’re delighted to see our wildflower garden flourishing and to watch the excitement it brings to our pupils. It’s wonderful to see them spotting bees and butterflies while developing a deeper appreciation for the natural world. This project reflects our belief that outdoor learning is an essential part of education, helping children to connect with nature, grow their curiosity, and care for the planet.”

Teachers have already begun incorporating the garden into lessons, from science and art to storytelling and mindfulness activities. The space is designed to evolve throughout the seasons, providing fresh inspiration and discoveries for children year-round.
