The Firs School is delighted to welcome Chef Steve Quinn to the Firs family! With a passion for creating delicious, nutritious meals that fuel young minds, Chef Steve is already making a fantastic impact in the school kitchen.
Under
his expert care, pupils can look forward to exciting new menus,
wholesome ingredients, and comforting classics plus fresh inspiration to
every plate.
And
there’s more to celebrate! Today, we are thrilled to announce that The
Firs School has been awarded a 5-star rating in our latest food hygiene
inspection. This top rating is a testament to the dedication and hard
work of the entire catering team, who ensure that every meal is prepared
to the highest standards of cleanliness, safety, and excellence.
Headteacher David Girvan said, "We
are so pleased to welcome Chef Steve to The Firs School. His enthusiasm
for food and commitment to quality is already shining through, with the
children all giving their own five-star reviews! Achieving a 5-star
hygiene rating on his very first inspection with us is an incredible
achievement—well done to the whole team!"
To celebrate, we’re sharing one of Chef Steve’s Easter Cupcake recipes—a simple and fun Easter Crispy Cake recipe, perfect for the little ones to get involved in!
Easter Crispy Cakes
Ingredients:
- 100g milk chocolate
- 50g butter
- 2 tbsp golden syrup
- 100g rice Krispies (or corn flakes)
- 100g mini chocolate eggs (or Easter-themed chocolates)
- A few handfuls of shredded coconut (optional, for decoration)
Instructions:
- Melt the Chocolate:
Break the chocolate into pieces and place in a bowl with the butter and golden syrup.
Melt gently in the microwave in 20-second bursts, stirring between each one until smooth and glossy. Or, melt over a pot of simmering water. - Mix the Rice Krispies:
Stir the rice Krispies or corn flakes into the melted chocolate mixture until fully coated. - Form the Cakes:
Spoon the mixture into cupcake cases, pressing down gently to form little nests. - Decorate:
Top each nest with a few mini chocolate eggs and a sprinkle of shredded coconut for a "nest" look (optional). You can also use chocolate chicks or bunnies for an extra Easter touch! - Chill:
Place the cakes in the fridge for at least 1 hour to set. - Serve & Enjoy:
Once set, these crispy cakes are ready to be enjoyed! Perfect for Easter treats, parties, or just a fun baking session with the kids.
